Title: Giants: Citizen Kabuto
Genre: Action, Adventure, RPG
Planet Moon Studios
Release Date: 7 Dec, 2000
Wacky, witty, brightly coloured, and full of that 'old school' feel. A bit glitchy, but there are some faults with modern systems. I recommend playing with a reduced colour mode, x32 or x16.. Playing "Giants" brings back a giant amount of memories of my school years. I got it on a CD with "Worms" in 2002 and used to play it a lot since then. Both single campaign and the multyplayer are really fun and addictive even today. Also the characters and their humor are gonna make you laugh your♥♥♥♥♥loud more times than one. Pity that "Giants" are way too underrated and barely known. Although the campaign offers so much variety - you'll have too go through:
1. Pure shooting missions.
2. Half-strategic missions (you still control your character in a shooting mode but must also hire workers, manage provisions, build and defend your base).
3. Racing levels.
Besides there are 3 completely different and unique races, and you'll get to control EACH one of them:
1. Meccs - weapon wielding humanoids. They rely heavily on tech upgrades and can fly slowly.
2. Sea Reaper - you're gonna control a sexy gal, who doesn't use weapons much but moves really fast and can cast deadly magic spells.
3. Kabuto - a giant monster with a wide range of abilities to crush everything on its path. Oh, and you can also eat enemy soldiers. Yummy! :)
Of course, despite all these fancy traits the game's not perfect. There're a lot of bugs which can be used to trick the game and win easily. And all the different gameplay styles aren't well balanced (you have only one strategic mission for meccs and 3 of them for the sea reaper. Racing levels were also packed together instead of being distributed equally among the missions). Nevertheless I highly recommend playing it if you're tired of modern tedious shooters. "Giants" are definitely worth your attention. And for a game which was made in 2000, it fairly deserves to be considered a masterpiece.. I recommend playing with a reduced colour mode, x32 or x16.. best game ever!!!!!!!!. Well, it was fun to play again. Always liked this game, more so in the past though because of the age of it. The most frustrating part of it is the missing save ability and the relative non-existence of checkpoints. So basically you do parts over and over and over....which hurts the overall fun. Graphics are relative to the time period in which it was made, and is glitchy with some things disappearing depending on your point of view.. Criminally underrated title. The Developers haven't updated it in years yet with the community made patches it still holds up today with a funny and entertaining story, great objective based scenarios, and game play that feels satisfying to play.
